Easy to book into, great price and the trainer Percy was lovely! I would definitely recommend doing this course, I even travelled from Batemans Bay and would again!
I attended the ONA Coffee Home Barista Course last weekend with the hope of improving my understanding of what constitutes a good cup of coffee, as well as some guidance on the specific things I could be doing to improve the coffee I was making at home. Instead, the person conducting the course seemed very much preoccupied with showcasing her own knowledge and enjoyment of coffee rather than imparting it to others.
While she clearly knew a lot about coffee and is very passionate about it, "teaching" didn't feel like as much of a passion or focus for her. At one point when I tried to ask a question, she raised her finger in a "wait a moment" gesture because she was too busy swishing coffee around in her mouth to answer it.
When I did manage to ger her attention, the feedback was not always the most helpful. Rather than providing actionable advice on how to improve, the instructor would instead just simply note what I was doing wrong. At one point, after she noted I had incorporated too much air into the milk, I had to expressly ask her "sure, so what's something I could be doing to stop that from happening?". To her credit, she did eventually provide me with some useful feedback, but by that point we were running out of time.
Overall, I left the course feeling more uncertain about my abilities as a home barista.
